Living funerals and living wakes

I create meaningful living funeral ceremonies for people across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, and Northamptonshire who want to gather with loved ones, share memories, and hear heartfelt words. At the same time, they can still be part of the occasion. I will work sensitively with you and your family to shape a ceremony around your wishes, relationships, health and practical needs, offering calm guidance from our first conversation to the gathering itself.

Personal Living Funeral Ceremonies Across the Three Counties

A living funeral—sometimes called a living ceremony—is a personal gathering held during someone’s lifetime. It can be reflective, joyful, emotional or a mixture of all three. There is no fixed format. The purpose is to create space for meaningful words, stories, music and connection, with the person being honoured present to experience them.

I will listen carefully to what matters to you and help create a ceremony that feels authentic, not overwhelming. You may wish to hear tributes from family and friends, share your own reflections, include favourite songs and readings or spend unhurried time together. A Celebration of Life can offer inspiration for uplifting personal touches, adapted thoughtfully for a living gathering.

Gentle Planning Around Health and Circumstances

The ceremony may take place at home, in a hospice, in a garden or at another suitable and accessible venue in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire or Northamptonshire. I can adapt the length, pace, and order around energy levels, treatment, mobility, and comfort, working with the person, their family, and relevant care professionals where appropriate. Plans can remain flexible if health or circumstances change.

Some people want to be involved in every choice; others prefer a trusted relative or friend to coordinate with me. Whether we meet within my usual service area or arrange conversations another way, I will answer questions honestly and kindly, give everyone time to consider the wording, and make agreed changes so the ceremony feels safe, respectful, and manageable.

Creating Space for Words That Matter

I can write and lead the ceremony, help family and friends prepare contributions and bring the different elements together with warmth and sensitivity. If beliefs within the family differ, my Independent Celebrant service allows us to include religious, spiritual or non-religious content in a balanced way.

A living funeral does not replace any later arrangements. When the time comes, your family may also choose a Funeral and Memorial Service or a separate celebration. Where helpful, I can ensure that stories, readings or wishes expressed during the living ceremony are preserved for those later plans.

Living Funeral Fees and FAQs

We will agree my fee clearly before we begin. It usually includes our consultation, ceremony planning and writing, an agreed number of revisions, liaison with your chosen venue or care setting, and leading the gathering. Travel within my usual service area across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire can be discussed when you enquire. Additional meetings, urgent timescales, rehearsals, longer journeys, printed materials or unusual requests may cost more, but I will always explain and agree these with you beforehand. Every situation is different, so please speak openly with me about your needs and budget.

Who decides what is included?
The person being honoured remains at the centre of the planning wherever possible. With their agreement, family members and close friends can also contribute ideas and memories.

What if my health changes before the ceremony?
I will adapt the timing, length or format where possible. We can simplify the ceremony, move the venue or consider a smaller gathering if that feels more manageable.

Which areas do you cover?
I support people and families throughout Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. If your home, hospice, or chosen venue is just outside these counties, please get in touch, and I will be happy to discuss whether I can help.
