My Grief Café offers a gentle, informal place for people living with bereavement or loss across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. You can talk, listen, remember or spend time with people who understand. You do not need a connection to a particular hospice, funeral service or faith, and there is no pressure to share more than feels comfortable.
What Happens at a Local Grief Café?
Each gathering offers a warm, welcoming and unhurried space. Some people come ready to talk; others prefer to listen or quietly be alongside others. Conversation may include the person who died, the practical changes loss brings, difficult days, meaningful memories or ordinary life after bereavement.
A Grief Café is not group therapy or formal counselling, and I do not ask anyone to follow a set programme. My role as a celebrant is to welcome people, hold the space with care and help everyone feel heard and respected. I will confirm refreshments and venue details for each event.
Who Is the Grief Café For?
The café is open to adults experiencing grief, whether the loss is recent or happened some time ago. You may attend alone, with a friend or with a relative. Whether you live in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, or a nearby community, it can help if you feel isolated, want to meet others who understand, or want a place where grief doesn't need to be explained.
A Grief Café differs from a Death Café. A Grief Café focuses on living with bereavement and connecting with others after loss, while a Death Café generally invites broader conversation about death and dying. Neither replaces professional help. For confidential bereavement support and information, you can contact Cruse Bereavement Support.
Local Bereavement Support and Monthly Details
Dates, times and venue information for gatherings across my service area will be updated each month, so please check the latest event details before travelling. Where helpful, I can also signpost you towards local services. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity provides bereavement resources and support in Cambridgeshire, while Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice supports people and families in Bedfordshire and nearby areas. Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice also supports people in and around Peterborough, and I can share suitable options for Northamptonshire when available.
If you need one-to-one counselling, clinical help or urgent emotional support, a specialist organisation or healthcare professional will be better placed to help. The café can support that work by offering gentle connection and shared understanding.
Grief Café Costs and FAQs
Attendance details for each local gathering, including whether a session is free or whether a small contribution is requested for refreshments or venue costs, will be shown clearly with the event. There is no ongoing commitment, and you can choose the dates that feel helpful. If booking is required because space is limited, this will also be explained in the monthly listing.
Do I have to talk about my loss?
No. You are welcome to listen, join in when you wish or sit with others. There is no pressure to speak.
Is a Grief Café counselling?
No. It is an informal peer-support space, not therapy or clinical care. I can signpost you to specialist support if needed.
Which areas do your Grief Cafés cover?
Events may be offered across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, depending on confirmed venues and dates. Please check the latest monthly listing for the location nearest to you.
